Lexus is returning to the Nurburgring racetrack this spring to take the challenge of the 24 Hours endurance race with the Lexus LFA supercar.
This will be the Lexus LFAs first appearance in a competition, taking on one of the most difficult circuits in the world in a test of endurance, handling and speed. In two past outings in the competition, the supercars development versions were tested to improve handling and performance. The Lexus LFA will now be a strong challenger in its standard production form.
Having a lightweight and advanced composite construction, plus a V10 engine, it can reach up to 62mph within 3.7 seconds and run at a maximum speed of over 200mph.
Gazoo Racing will prepare two Lexus LFAs for the event, which starts on 13 May and runs until 16 May. Led by Hiromu Naruse, the master test driver for Toyota, the team will have three German and four Japanese drivers, who boast outstanding combined endurance and GT racing experience.
Takayuki Kinoshita has won the Super Taikyu Endurance Series six times and has raced many times at the Nurburgring, consistently finishing higher than any other Japanese driver. Akira Ida was champion at the 1995 and 2007 Tokachi 24 Hours race, and both Kazuya Oshima and Juichi Wakisaka have been successful in the Japanese Super GT 300 and GT 500 competitions.
The members from Germany are Armin Hahne, who won the 1982 and 1983 Spa 24 Hours; Jochen Krumbach, who came second at the Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2008; and Andre Lotterer, champion of the 2006 and 2008 Super GT 500.
