Lexus has introduced its latest hybrid drive technology in the CT 200h, the unit that makes its debut in the luxury car market. The Lexus Hybrid Drive's latest development maintains the refinement, high efficiency and smoothness for which it is famous. It also added a selection of several driving modes that allow drivers tap to the vehicle's full dynamic potential or enjoy its optimum eco-performance.
The new Lexus CT 200h features two distinct driving moods - Relaxing and Dynamic - which the car adopts in line with the driver's choice of drive modes for the full hybrid system that comprises of a 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine, an electrically controlled continuously variable transmission (E-CVT) and an electric motor.
Electric vehicle (EV), NORMAL and ECO modes put the emphasis on smooth acceleration, ride comfort and low-level NVH in the cabin for a relaxing drive.
As a full hybrid car, the CT 200h can automatically operate in EV mode, which switches off the petrol engine and runs on its electric motor alone, with speeds from start-up of up to 30mph. Suited for silent and smooth progress in urban traffic, its tailpipe emissions can be reduced to zero, with driving range determined by local conditions and the level of battery charge. The driver can manually select EV mode.
When switched to ECO mode, the vehicle's systems are automatically adjusted to provide maximum efficiency. The car's throttle responses are moderated, when the driver presses the accelerator hard. Air conditioning performance is also changed to reduce fuel consumption.
