Nigel Page, recent winner of the EuroMillions lottery draw, has said that he will use some of his 56 million pound prize money to purchase a new 4x4 car, probably a BMW X6 or a Range Rover .
His decision is not surprising. Based on a recent study, a new BMW takes second place as the most popular car purchased by lottery winners, while a Range Rover is at sixth place.
Mercedes-Benz is the most popular car model bought by millionaires, and the C-Class as the number one choice among lottery winners.
Vauxhall, which landed at number four in the ranking, might be considered as more of a surprise item in the list.
A new vehicle is also one of the very first items acquired by a lottery winner. Thirty-six percent of lottery millionaires head for a car salesroom before looking for a new house, and even before going on a high street spending spree.
Tom Naylor from the West Midlands won a jackpot prize of 15,528,286 pounds on the Lotto Extra in 2001. He had been a lorry driver at the time. According to him, he wanted to have a car for every day of the week, and that was exactly what he did. Naylor purchased a Rolls-Royce Phantom, an Aston Martin DB9, a Hummer, a Land Rover Discovery, and three Jaguars: an XJ220, XK and XJ.
Indeed, 13 percent of lottery winners have purchased a minimum of 10 cars since the time of the winnings, and winning households have bought an average of 5.17 cars.
