Mazda Motors UK is due to axe the iconic RX-8 this autumn as the rotary-engined, four-seater sportscars does not meet the new Euro-5 emissions standards, which will become mandatory starting 1 January 2011.

The production of right-hand drive RX-8 for the British market has ended at the carmaker's Hiroshima facility for some time now. Currently, there are fewer than 100 units left in stock.

"Over the next couple of months drivers will be presented with a rare opportunity to acquire one of the very last RX-8s available in the UK. Its immense driver appeal, the world's only rotary-powered production car is still a head-turner, with tremendous road presence and styling that still looks fresh", said Mark Cameron, sales director at Mazda Motors UK.

The 2010 version of Mazda's well-loved sports coupé - the Mazda RX-8 R3 - is impressive for lots of reasons, such as its freestyle doors that make it a practical every day car.

Powered by a highly efficient 231hp twin-rotor engine, the new RX-8 R3 delivers a heightened motoring experience with engine and chassis responses, faster steering, more equipment, more refinement and greater value. The car continues to feature the front-midship engine and rear-wheel drive configuration of the original version, producing equal weight distribution for great handling characteristics.

Inside, the RX-8 R3 features new-style steering wheel with audio controls, new Recaro sports seats in the front, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity and the new BOSEpremium audio system featuring eight-channel amplifier and 6-CD autochanger.

"Mazda RX-8 R3 is the ultimate expression of Mazda's DNA, demonstrating our brand's determination to do things differently. The R3 version delivers an even more focused and sporty driving experience, while retaining the original model's many unique technical innovations and adding premium features", added Cameron.

The 2010 Mazda RX-8 R3 is priced at £25,540 on-the-road.
