Owning a Renault Megane or a Vauxhall Corsa might be an excellent idea in a short term, however it may turn somewhat into a nightmare after say a three-year operation. A new motoring report revealed that some models have failed the Ministry of Transport (MOT) test, a compulsory vehicle check for all models over three-year old and registered in the UK.
Renault Megane came out to be the winner of this unwanted title with one in four (25%) of three-year old models most likely to fail its MOT test. The second place in the list belongs to similar-aged Vauxhall Corsas, with a 20% failure rate. Meanwhile, the BMW 3 Series is considered as the best performing three-year old model with only 7% failure rate.
For five-year old vehicles, the worst performer is the Corsa with 39% of these models most likely to fail the test. The Megane closely follows Corsa with 35% failure rate. Overall, one of UK's top-selling models the Ford Focus shown to be the best performer with just 1 in 5 (26%) of these models less likely to fail its MOT.
The research, commissioned by Nationwide Autocentres, has been conducted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MOT test this month.
"The data we compile is the best available representative sample of MOT test results in the UK", said Nationwide Autocentres Chief Operations Officer Bill Duffy.
'This report shows the importance of having the car regularly serviced and not relying on the MOT to show up faults. Motorists are spending money unnecessarily having repairs that could have been spotted and sorted much earlier in the life of a car", added Duffy.
