Before the Geneva Motor Show opens on March 4th, German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its most recent concept, which is a vehicle designed with sliding rear doors.
The F 800 Style research car, referred to as the sedan of tomorrow, is a showcase of future Mercedes Benz design and technology. Previewing the cars most striking features, the F 800 has rear doors that pivot and slide backwards, allowing for passenger access similar to that of commercial vans typically seen on todays roads.
Its designers used a swivel arm to prevent having to include door rails on the exterior of the vehicle. This gives the F 800 Style the look of being cast in a single piece when its doors are closed.
Mercedes-Benz has built the vehicle wider and longer than current sedan models, suggesting that the company believes that people want a greater freedom of movement in a more spacious interior. To achieve this goal without sacrificing the cars efficiency, the F 800 Style comes with either fuel cell drive propulsion or plug-in hybrid. It also includes a translucent roof to let more light into the vehicles interior.
Meanwhile, more than 100 new concept and production vehicles will be introduced at next months Geneva motor show.
Last week British auto maker Vauxhall Motors unveiled its Flextreme GT/E concept, a medium-sized vehicle featuring an electric powertrain and glass roof. Similar to Mercedes-Benz, Vauxhall aims to demonstrate that electric propulsion can also work in various car sizes. Size really doesnt matter when it comes to driving a car with zero C02 emissions, the firm said.
