Mercedes new E-Class set apart by green credentials

New Mercedes E-Class is a 'return to form', a journalist believes.
Even without the numerous high-tech features, Mercedes' new E-Class represents a return to form for the German manufacturer, it has been claimed. With the firm's E220 CDI model currently its biggest-selling car in the UK, Mercedes has launched its new E250 CDI, with the vehicle having been rejuvenated both on the outside and under the bonnet.
Writing for the Times, Anthony Ffrench-Constant revealed that the chassis of the new model is longer, wider and lower to the ground, as well as boasting some new curves, though "it's unlikely to raise any eyebrows".
However, it is the new BlueEfficiency technology introduced by Mercedes with its new E250 CDI which is its "unique selling point", the reviewer revealed.
Aimed at lowering fuel consumption and therefore environmental impact, the car comes with tyres designed to offer 17 per cent less rolling resistance, energy saving pumps for air conditioning and power steering and an engine capable of keeping carbon emissions as low as 159g per kilometre.
The E250 CDI , which is due to be launched in the UK in June, comes with a choice of four engines, namely three diesels and a petrol E6, with the price likely to remain around the £30,000 mark for the bottom of the range.
