mhd technology in new smart vehicles
20 November 2008
New smart vehicles will include mhd technology as standard.
New versions of the smart fortwo are set to be launched with micro hybrid drive (mhd) technology and enhanced equipment levels. The new 61 and 71 horsepower models will include the mhd technology as standard, which will help those familiar with driving used cars to help the environment and make financial savings.
A main benefit of the technology is that it turns an engine off when it realises that a driver is travelling at less than five miles per hour and braking, before automatically restarting when the brake pedal is released.
This helps to support the vehicle's fuel economy, while supporting the environment, with the smart mhd models stated as providing fuel savings of up to 24 per cent.
CO2 emissions will be reduced to 103 grams per kilometre.
Among the other benefits include upgrades in both interior and exterior.
The storage pockets in both the passenger and driver doors have been changed, while on the outside optional 15-inch six-spike alloy wheels are available.
Parking benefits can be gained by owners of the smart fortwo as its length equals the width of a regular parking slot, allowing two or three of the vehicle's to fit into a space normally used by a single car.
