Five of Mitsubishi's new iMIEV electric cars will be tested in the UK
Mitsubishi is to begin European trials of its new electric car in the UK this month.The car firm will be testing five of the new Mitsubishi iMIEV in the UK, with only 12 due to be entered into service in Europe ahead of its full-scale roll out.
Holland, Norway and Spain will receive the remaining vehicles.
The new vehicle is already tipped to be very popular in Japan, where it will be launched later this summer.
European government and corporate organisations will be responsible for testing the new eco-friendly vehicle, which is based on the 660cc Mitsubishi 'i' minicar.
If the trials are successful, the new car could be available to UK motorists as early as 2010.
Mitsubishi's electric car trial follows the announcement that the new Mini E electric car will be trialled in New York City, by the Street Condition Observation Unit (Scout).
