More used car drivers buying online
04 December 2009
Used car drivers looking for a good deal are increasingly turning to the internet to purchase a vehicle, recent figures suggest.
Increasing numbers of used car drivers are opting to purchase vehicles on the internet, recent figures have revealed.Auto eBid, which runs a reverse auction service enabling dealers to bid against each other for customers, published figures showing that sales of new cars online rose by 57 per cent year-on-year in November 2009.
While nationwide sales of new cars fell 8.8 per cent between January and November 2009 compared to the same time last year, the internet-based Auto eBid recorded a 99.6 per cent hike in sales.
According to Amin Saleem, founder and chief executive officer of the company, the numbers indicate a return to the 2007 levels recorded by the firm.
"We expect this growth to continue - with an increase in VAT and the end of the UK scrappage scheme in 2010, retail consumers will only make the plunge to purchase, if they can get a good deal," he said.
This comes after a survey conducted by Glass published last month indicated that new and used car owners are not spending as much on the upkeep of their vehicles during the recession, with 15 per cent saying they have not had them services.
