British sportscar manufacturer Morgan Motor Company has released the first photo and provisional specification of its newest model - the EvaGT - a four-seater coupé inspired by the British 1950s sport saloons.
The EvaGT will be powered by a BMW 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder twin turbo engine that uses direct petrol injection technologies to produce 306 horsepower and 400Nm of torque.
The car will come with a six-speed sport automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. It can go from 0 to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds and offers a maximum speed of 170mph. Its predicted weight is 1,250kg and the fuel consumption is 40mpg.
The grand tourer makes full use of an enhanced version of the bonded aluminium chassis first featured on the Morgan Aero SuperSports model. The chassis complies with both US and European safety approvals.
The car's bodywork is designed and built using advanced computer technology to ensure accuracy and finished by hand to make sure that they sleekly feel and look good. The car will use aluminium body panels with laminated internal safety structure. It features minimal shut lines, flush door handles, hidden wipers, and sharp creases that deflect air over the car's surface.
"The new Morgan EvaGT represents a philosophy of lightweight luxury that embraces authenticity, sustainability and innovation achieving its final result through the process of skilled craftsmanship", the company said in a press release.
The EvaGT is due to make its first public appearance at the 60th Pebble Beach Concours d-Elegance to be held in California, USA on 15 August 2010. Only 100 units will be produced, with first units hitting the production line in the middle of 2012.
Morgan has not yet released pricing details for the grand tourer, but the company said that is now accepting pre-orders, with £5,000 deposit required.
