Vauxhall has just launched the Corsavan ecoFLEX, its first commercial vehicle to feature Start/Stop System, allowing the 75PS 1.3-litre CDTi model to be fully compliant with Euro-5 standards, achieving 70.6mpg combined fuel consumption cycle and 105g/km CO2 emissions. Torque is also increased to 190Nm.

All Vauxhall vans with the Start/Stop System are also equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), which traps noxious particulates.

The Start/Stop System is based on a clever combination of engine, battery and brake management. Its principle is simple: it will automatically stop the engine when the car is at standstill in a red light or a traffic jam. As the driver presses the clutch pedal, it will automatically restart the engine. Naturally, the ventilation, braking system and power steering performance of the car are maintained while the engine is 'temporarily' off.

Motorists who drive their vans frequently in congested streets, where the Start/Stop function of the Corsavan will come into its own, will notice the biggest gains in fuel consumption. The Corsavan ecoFLEX 75PS 1.3-litre CDTi Start/Stop has an official 58.9mpg urban figure, which is more than 18% more economical compared to the outgoing Euro-4 van without the new system.

Nonetheless, the improvements package of Corsavan ecoFLEX does not end there. An enhanced starter motor, along with Electric Power Management system and a high performance battery are also fitted to ensure that the Start/Stop system is reliable during the car's life. The van is also equipped with a water pump to keep the cabin warm in cool weather, and drivers have the ability to completely turn off the Start/Stop system through a dashboard button.

The new Corsavan ecoFLEX Start/Stop models are just £220 higher than the price of the current Euro-5 Corsavan ecoFLEX 75PS 1.3-litre CDTi.
