New Mercedes has monster of an engine

25 November 2009

Mercedes E63 AMG is a beast of a car, it has been claimed.

The new flagship Mercedes E-Class saloon - the E63 AMG - may be the motor to tempt used car drivers into upgrading.

Described by What Car? as a "classy saloon", the auto is powered by a 522 bhp, 6.2-litre V8 "monster of an engine", which allows the driver to select the style of driving.

This is achieved with the four driving modes - Controlled Efficiency, Sports, Sports Plus and Manual. So, when changing from the first to the second mode, gear changes and engine speeds increase.

Similarly, when behind the wheel, the motorist can adjust the suspension levels.

For those getting somewhere in a hurry, the Race Start function propels the car forward from standing with maximum traction.

"The E63 does the comfortable cruiser job as well as any E-Class, but transforms into a totally different beast as you turn these dials," the news provider stated in its four-out-of-five star review.

It "blasts" the vehicle from zero to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.

Used Mercedes fans may also like the sound of the marque's new SLS AMG, which recently gained full marks from Auto Express.
