New Mitsubishis eagerly awaited

18 November 2009

Drivers looking to lower their carbon footprints might be looking forward to the commercial launch of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

New Mitsubishis have reached Britain and the "eagerly awaited" models will be hitting the road soon.

A total of 25 i-MiEVs were recently brought to the country by boat from Japan, having experienced commercial success already, the manufacturer said.

The completely electric and emission-free vehicles will be used as part of a government trial, but Mitsubishi hopes to start full European production next year, with the intention of making them available to drivers shortly afterwards.

Those who are looking to buy a car in the near future but want to lower their carbon footprint might find the i-MiEV is a worth consideration - according to the maker, there is room for four people, a top speed of 81 mph and a range of 100 miles before the lithium-ion battery requires charging.

"It only costs 96p for a full charge … from flat to full in six hours at any UK three-pin socket."

Earlier this year, the i-MiEV was awarded the Electric Vehicle of the Year award at the GreenFleet event in London.
