Nissan Leaf recipient of incentive offer from UK government

Nissan warmly welcomed the UK governments announcement on Thursday of a 230m pound scheme that will provide up to 5,000 pounds in financial incentives to buyers of electric vehicles.

The scheme is scheduled to be implemented prior to the launch of the Nissan Leaf electric car, which will be introduced to the UK market in March 2011.

The electric vehicle features all the required criteria to be eligible for the financial incentives, including a 70-mile minimum range, a top speed of more than 60mph, and a three-year warranty.

We welcome the announcement that the government is to incentivise sales of electric vehicles. These incentives will bring electric vehicle ownership within reach of UK motorists and make cars like the Nissan Leaf a financially viable alternative to conventional petrol and diesel-powered cars, said Nissan Motor Ltd Managing Director Paul Willcox.

This 5-seater Nissan Leaf electric car, with a 100-mile range on just one charge, will purely be an electric vehicle (ie: doesnt require fuel or have tailpipe emissions.) Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the Leaf can either charge fully in around eight hours or perform a quick charge that only takes 25 minutes.

This electric vehicle has increased aerodynamics and range, adding to its mass appeal. Among its features are a low and V-shaped front end, a flat floor, and sizeable LED headlamps. The cars batteries are placed beneath the passenger compartment floors providing ideal comfort for up to five adult passengers and their baggage.

Moreover, the Leaf is equipped with an advanced IT system which supports EV driving for 24 hours per day. By touching a button, the monitor displays the remaining driving range, along with the current charge status as well as the location of charging sites nearby.
