An all-new pair of Nissan superminis will hit the UK showrooms in September this year.
Nissan Motor Comp.s declaration that it will retain the name Micra for its upcoming supermini rather than some vague music-related moniker like Bongo or Bassoon has brought relief to some quarters.
Nissans all-new Micra features the global compact or the so-called V platform developed by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. It is due to be incorporated into various models that will be offered in over 160 countries, so people can literally go to any part of the world and say: Ive got one of those.
The Micra will be produced in the companys new car plant in Chennai, India. It will debut in Thailand but will go on sale in British showrooms this September.
At its launch, only a 1.2-litre petrol engine will be available, to come later with a choice of two power outputs. One of these will release less than 100g/km of CO2. Diesel-fuelled models wont be offered.
Meanwhile, the Juke will be built at Nissans Sunderland car plant, which formerly housed production of the Micra. The Nissan Juke can be described as a small, appealing crossover automobile that looks quite similar to the Nissan Qazana concept displayed at last years Geneva Motor Show.
Nissan aims to sell around 150, 000 Jukes per year, with much of the sales concentrated towards Europe. The Juke is likely to hit the UKs roads by October.
The top-of-the-range Nissan Juke features a new 1.6-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine that can build up 188bhp. Other engines include a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel with 109bhp, and a naturally-aspirated 1.6 petrol developing 15bhp.
