Owners of new and used cars may benefit from maintenance advice

Owners of new and used cars may benefit from maintenance advice 30 June 2009
Dealers may be able to help customers protect new and used cars by advising them of the importance of regular dipstick tests, if the comments of one company are anything to go by.

Auto care firm Comma has declared National Oil Check Week a success, as 7,200 drivers took advantage of the free assessments it offered at various roadshows across the country.

However, motorists may still benefit from education in this area as some 45 per cent of vehicle owners are thought to have insufficient engine lubrication.

Comma pointed out the average repair bill for fixing a car damaged in this manner is £1,413.

Sales and marketing director Mike Bewsey expressed satisfaction at being able to help the motorists who attended the group's roadshows.

He stated: "Most people we spoke to were surprised to discover that their cars needed such regular attention and I'm certain we saved at least a few people having to shell out for a new engine."

Previously, Comma reported one in ten learner drivers are unable to carry out basic vehicle maintenance.
