Peugeot has laid the first clue as to what will replace the 407 family car by revealing the 5 by Peugeot concept car.
The saloon, which will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show next month, will be displayed together with the SR1 concept car that was announced back in January.
The 5 concept cars LED headlights are enhanced by illuminated surrounds. The sides of the car showcase brushed-aluminium door handles and window surrounds, while the unique back lights are formed of three separate parts.
The stylish and sleek new concept is 1420mm high and 4860mm long. It is longer, but not as tall as the Vauxhall Inisgnia. The company said that the 5 concept car is a good indication of how the 407 substitute will look, and that the saloon assures exceptional interior space, convenience and comfort.
Peugeot could probably present something that is closer to the 407 substitute at the Paris Show in October. It is expected to be called the 508 when it goes into the showrooms and on general sale next year.
In keeping with the companys latest show cars, the new concept car showcases the Hybrid4 technology, which will be presented in the 3008 crossover in 2011.
The new concept car is powered by a 163bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine, which drives the front wheels, and at the rear a 37bhp electric motor. This electric motor enables the car to run at low speeds using pure electric power without emissions, as well as give the car the four-wheel drive feature when needed.
