Porsche SE is gearing up for the launch of its fastest and most powerful road-legal sports car ever manufactured - in the form of the new top-of-the-range 911 GT2 RS.
The car is capable of accelerating 0-186mph in 28.9 seconds, 0-124mph in just 9.8 seconds and 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds. Compared with the former GT2 model, the 911 GT2 RS' power is increased by 90hp and weighs 70kg less, which means its has a weight-to-power ratio of only 2.21 kilos per horsepower; indisputably the best power/weight ratio in its range.
The six-cylinder boxer engine has two turbochargers with changeable turbine geometry and drives the back wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 and especially-produced for the car convert this immense power to equally massive acceleration and performance on the road.
The 911 GT2 RS's exterior styling clearly stands out from the 911 GT2 with the use of carbon-fibre-reinforced components finished in a unique matt-black. At the car's front, the new, broader light-alloy wheels with centre locking are covered by flared wheel arches. Model designations stating 'GT2 RS' on the rear engine cover and doors provide further distinction.
The elegance of sporting performance continues from behind the wheel of the car, which features lightweight seats and lightweight interior door panels with opening straps. The car's interior is basically in black, attractively contrasting with red alcantara upholstery on the roof lining and seat centre sections as well as parts on the handbrake lever, steering wheel rim and gearshift.
Mated to every 911 GT2 RS is Porsche-designed Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), a refined car security package, which has passed the Thatcham standard.
Porsche will limit the production of the new 911 GT2 RS to only 500 units worldwide. It will go on sale in the UK by September wearing a price tag from £164,107. Additional technical details and specifications will be released on a date closer to launch.
