Renault has provided a sneak peak of its new concept car, DeZir, ahead of the 2010 Paris Motor Show. DeZir serves as a proof of Renault's commitment to more emotional styling.
The bright red finish and sensuous lines of the new concept car express passion. Powered by an electric motor, it is a proof that electric cars and a love of cars are definitely compatible.
DeZir, the first project to have been headed by Laurens van den Acker, marks the beginning of a new sequence of concept cars, which will give an insight into the new vision of Renault Design for the future.
"DeZir is a statement of our new formal design language which conveys notions such as movement, sensuality and emotion through ideal proportions, in much the same way as an object whose forms have been honed by nature. The result is a warm, stimulating design that says 'Renault'", said Axel Breun, director of Concept Car and Show Car Design of Renault.
Fluidity was an overriding theme from the previous preliminary sketches, and it was mainly expressed by a blend of generous volumes and simple forms. "My early source of inspiration stemmed from the liquid sensation, wave-like movement and contrasts in light associated with certain rippled surfaces," said Yann Jarsalle, who was responsible for DeZir's exterior styling. "By directly laying out volumes and not just joining together a number of surfaces by lines, I felt more in tune with the world of sculpture than with that of architecture", added Jarsalle.
