Skoda UK has collaborated with RAC to offer an easy-to-read European Travel Advice Guide that is aimed at clarifying the dos and don'ts of driving abroad for used car drivers.
With short-haul and flight disruptions a dilemma this year, many British motorists would rather choose to drive abroad for their summer holiday. The simplicity of fast ferry and Channel Tunnel crossings means that driving across Europe is now much easier than ever before. However, the ever-changing driving regulations and traffic laws in each European country can be a major problem to an otherwise perfect holiday.
For instance, the drink-driving limit in Belgium, France and Italy is 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. In the UK, the limit is 80mg per 100ml of blood and is only 20mg in Norway. In Bulgaria, it is illegal to sound a horn during lunch-time hours of 12 pm to 4pm and in Belarus, it is punishable to drive a dirty car. When driving in Spain, every driver is required to have a reflective jacket within reach in the car all the times, and in Germany, the use a GPS navigation system that can locate fixed speed cameras is prohibited.
The driving guide also details mandatory equipment and driving regulations, as well as lists recommended items needed to drive safely in over 40 European countries. The guide is now available at local Skoda retailers free of charge.
"Driving abroad should be an enjoyable experience and our aim is to provide travel information to our customers so that they have one less thing to worry about. We urge anyone driving abroad this summer to contact their local Skoda retailer and ask about the relevant regulations", said John Bower, director of aftersales at Skoda UK.
