Despite the end of the government's scrappage scheme last March, record sales of Skoda UK have continued to grow. For the first half of the year, the Czech carmaker managed to sell 23,248 vehicles.
"We have sold 61% more cars in the first half of this year than compared to 2009, making the first half of 2010 the most successful six-month trading period in Skoda UK's history. Taking into account our record order bank of nearly 11,000 cars awaiting delivery to customers, we are tracking towards a record-ever sales result in the UK for 2010", said Robert Hazelwood, director of Skoda UK.
Over the past six months, demand for all Skoda's products in its five model range has imploded in the UK. The Octavia is so far the top selling model in the UK with sales up 75% than last year; followed by the five-door five-seat MPV Roomster, which experienced 37% sales increase as compared to the same period in 2009; and the new Fabia supermini, which saw a 25% increase. Meanwhile, the award winning large family car Superb continues to top sales expectations with 13% increase over the last year, while the Yeti has sold nearly 3,000 units since it was launched in September 2009.
"Customers recognise that Skoda is a brand that delivers great quality cars at outstanding value for money, delivered and serviced by retailers who take excellent care of their customers", added Hazelwood.
As reported by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, the carmaker has consistently gained a 2% plus market share in the UK, with 22,720 vehicle registrations in the first-half. The results came after the recently published global sales of Skoda Auto, in which it posted a record 378,747 cars sold in the first half of the year, an approximately 15% increase than the same period last year.
