Suzuki Motors UK has just released first information on the third generation Swift, along with two pictures that offer glimpse on how the new car will look like when it hits the UK showrooms this autumn. The company held the world premiere line off ceremony for the new car's mass production at its Magyar Suzuki Corporation plant at Esztergom, Hungary.

The 2011 Swift is positioned as the company's newest world strategic model and makes further developments in driving performance, impact safety, handling, styling, significantly lower emissions and improved fuel consumption.

The all-new Swift is 3,850 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,510 mm in height and now has 2,430 mm wheelbase, which means it is quite bigger than the previous version.

Its new bodyshelf is stiffer and lighter than before thanks to extensive use of first-class steel. This newest body design has helped improve impact safety for occupants and pedestrians. The car's interior design now has a more dynamic appeal, featuring black as keynote colour with silver accents throughout the car.

Performance wise, it is fitted with a new 1.2 litre petrol engine comprising Dual VVT generating 94PS at 6,000rpm and maximum torque of 118Nm at 4,800rpm.

With regard to fuel consumption, the engine is rated at 56.5mpg for the manual transmission model, a 7.8mpg improvement compared to the previous 1.3 litre engine.

Furthermore, emissions are much lower compared to previous model; the new 1.2 litre engine with manual transmission generates just 116g/km on the combined cycle, representing a 17% or 24g/km improvement over the 1.3 litre unit. According to the carmaker, an optional automatic transmission for the petrol engine will be offered from launch.

A 1.3 litre diesel engine will also be available and planned for released in the UK by early 2011. It emits 109g/km of CO2 and has combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg.
