Top Gear award Scirocco Car of the Year

01 December 2008

The Volkswagen Scirocco has been crowned 2008 Car of the Year by Top Gear.

The Volkswagen Scirocco has been voted as Car of the Year 2008 by members of the road test team and journalists from Top Gear magazine.

It was believed by the magazine that the Scirocco offered a system that is unexpected in an average car, a standard Adaptive Chassis Control system which allowed a driver to change between "soft and scythe at the touch of a button".

The magazine added: "Amongst the mega-machinery that makes up a lot of the Top Gear Awards, we're celebrating something truly unique: a common man's exotic. The Scirocco is a car we can understand, appreciate and afford."

Chris Craft, director of Volkswagen UK, stated: "The Scirocco has received a fantastic reception since its launch earlier this year and to be named Car of the Year by such a tough and well-respected group of judges is a real honour."

The Scirocco is the most technologically advanced coupe ever produced by Volkswagen and is equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI engine.

It is also the third generation of the vehicle, with the first version of the sports coupe beginning in 1974 for used car drivers.
