Toyota announces recall plans
2 February 2010Owners of new and used Toyota vehicles may wish to take note of the manufacturer's plans to repair accelerator pedals in eight of its models.
A Europe-wide recall for Toyota's Corolla, Verso, Avensis, iQ, RAV4, AYGO, Yaris and Auris models was announced on January 28th and it is thought that up to 1.8 million vehicles may be affected.
The carmaker noted that a shipment of parts for these vehicles will arrive next week and the fix will be made "as quickly as possible".
Tadashi Arashima, president and chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Europe, commented that the problem - which has only occurred in "rare circumstances" - involves an accelerator pedal that sticks and "necessary checks" will be made to ensure that future Toyota customers will not be affected.
He said: "The recall action is a precautionary measure aimed to guarantee the highest quality standards to all customers."
One vehicle repair firm reported last month that it has launched a new facility which allows consumers to track the progress of repairs on their vehicles online.
A total of 80 per cent of Total Accident Management outlets are now using the web-based RepairTracker service.
