Toyota Prius drives away with green award

The Toyota Prius has been given a green award.
The Toyota Prius has been named Car of the Year 2010 by WhatGreenCar, in news that may be of interest to used car drivers looking to upgrade their vehicle.Among the other competitors for the accolade was the MINI Cooper, Smart fortwo, Honda Civic CNG and Ford Fusion Hybrid, among others.
According to Dr Ben Lane, managing editor of WhatGreenCar, all ten finalists impresses in terms of the technology they employ.
However, the publication's judges were unanimous in their acclaim for the Prius, who thought the new model's outstanding environmental rating was worthy of the award.
This is demonstrated in the fuel economy of the auto, which stands at 51 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the motorway. It also has CO2 output of 127 g/km a fiver per cent improvement over the 2009 model.
He remarked: "We particularly like the way the car seamlessly integrates green features as part of its design.
"This encourages a smooth stress-free driving style, improves fuel economy and drives down emissions."
BMW was also praised for its green credentials recently, as it was named the top Industry Supplier in the Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero Awards.
