Toyota UK has retained the top spot in the recent industry-wide survey conducted by environmental website Clean Green Cars, proving its environmental leadership in providing motorists with cleaner and more efficient cars.
In the website's independent survey of the average CO2 emissions from cars sold in the UK in the first six months of the year, Toyota has continued to outshine all other carmakers; its CO2 figures improved 6.71% to 124.49g/km compared to same period in 2009.
This compares to an average CO2 emissions of 145.14g/km for Britain's new car market as a whole.
Already below the mandatory target of 130g/km CO2 emissions put in place by the European Union (EU) for 2012, Toyota's achievement echoes the impact of both the application of Toyota Optimal Drive in its diesel and petrol powered models, and its Hybrid Synergy Drive full hybrid technology, which is equipped in Auris and Prius hybrid.
Moreover, Toyota's Optimal Drive technology covers a comprehensive range of improvements to transmission and engine design and engineering that significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and cut mechanical losses without compromising the car's performance. The introduction of engine stop-start technology, Dual VVT-i advanced variable valve timing and car parts that are more compact and weigh less have had direct impact on CO2 output.
Toyota looks forward to more improvements in its CO2 performance with the introduction of its UK-built Auris hybrid, the very first full-hybrid family hatchback which emits just 89g/km of CO2. Meanwhile, the Prius, equipped with full hybrid powertrain generating a segment-best CO2 emission of just 89g/km, also proved its eco-friendly stance.
