Used Volkswagen drivers might enjoy impressive Scirocco
5 November 2009Trading in a used car for a new Volkswagen Scirocco might be a great idea, if a new review is anything to go by.
Bill Thomas of Top Gear said the GT 2.0 TDI 170 PS model was "very impressive" and "genuinely sporty".
In addition to having the looks of a coupe, it has a turbodiesel engine with powerful torque and never sounds strained, he added.
A diesel option is available and this is relatively thrifty - giving 40.4 mpg on the urban cycle, Mr Thomas explained.
"The petrol car gets 26.9 mpg in town - so over an average 12,000-mile year, driving normally, based on a pound a litre, you'd save £678."
However, the money-saving aspect of the diesel was not enough to make the reviewer favour it over the more powerful petrol model.
He said he would be willing to shell out the extra cash to feel the difference.
Used Volkswagen drivers who want to find a better model might benefit from checking out other models currently available from the manufacturer, such as the Golf and Beetle Cabriolet.
