Used Volkswagen fans may need to hurry to purchase Citi Golf
10 November 2009Fans of used Volkswagen Mk1 or Citi Golfs may have to hurry to get their hands on a second-hand model.
This is because the manufacturer recently announced that manufacture of the range is to cease this autumn.
Having been in production for over 30 years, the firm has decided to pull the plug on the popular city auto.
David Powels, managing director of Volkswagen South Africa, where the Citi Golf is made, said: "We are announcing the end of this legend called the A1 Golf or Citi Golf.
"There is still demand, but it is no longer economically viable to produce any platform that has a production level of 20,000 to 25,000 units a year."
But drivers of used Volkswagens may be pleased to hear that there will be a new entry-level model to replace it.
People looking to get their hands on a greener Golf may be interested in a Volkswagen BlueMotion, which has a fuel efficiency of 74.3 mpg and carbon output of 99 g/km.
