Used Audi R8 saved from crusher
08 February 2010
A new initiative has saved a used Audi R8 from being crushed.
A used Audi R8 worth £64,000 is one of the vehicles reclaimed by HPI CrushWatch before it was destroyed.HPI CrushWatch is a new initiative that aims to reclaim seized vehicles before they get crushed so they can be returned to finance companies.
In addition to the recovered used Audi R8, the scheme also saw a Bentley and Aston Martin DB7 recovered before it was crushed.
Alastair Crossley of HPI said CrushWatch protects the interests of finance companies as it allows police to return the used car to the lender rather than having it crushed.
HPI points out that uninsured drivers - of which there are an estimated two million in the UK - invalidate car financing contracts if they use their car without the proper insurance, "putting motor finance companies under pressure to raise their premiums to cover their risks".
Started over seven decades ago, HPI holds records on all UK-registered used cars and new vehicles.
