Used car drivers may benefit from seatbelt add-on
09 November 2009
Motorists may be safer behind the wheel with a seatbelt add-on, it has been suggested.
A new seatbelt add-on device could potentially increase the safety of those behind the wheel of new and used cars.BackInAction found that some 70 per cent of osteopaths said using a CG-LockO seatbelt stabiliser could improve safety in the event of an accident.
Furthermore, 90 per cent of those questioned claimed utilising the device could also help reduce backache.
It works by not returning slack to the lapbelt once it has been removed, keeping the user in the "safest position", by ensuring it remains over the hip bone and not over the stomach.
Commenting on the research, David Newbound, managing director of BackInAction said: "The car is a difficult challenge the forces of cornering and braking one sized seats yet many sized drivers that's why so many people suffer back problems from driving or being a passenger."
He noted that most people questioned would recommend the CG-LockO to other drivers.
In related news, people who drive new or used cars were recently advised to change their tyres to those suitable for winter conditions in order to ensure increased grip on the roads.
