Used cars may be a smart way to commute
28 August 2009
A new survey has shown that increasing numbers of commuters are using motorbikes to get to work but for some this is impossible.
A new study has shown that there are more motorbike riders using two wheels instead of four to get to work these days. The National Travel Survey was undertaken by the government and analysed by the Motor Cycle Industry Association, which said 52 per cent of all motorcycle trips last year were made for commuting purposes.
However, for some people, using a motorbike is impossible.
Families or those with special requirements are unlikely to be able to pop their helmet on and zoom off to work - but the MCI found that financial obstacles were in the way of driving any type of vehicle for some people.
Younger people especially said this was a main deterrent stopping them driving.
But a used car could be ideal, as they are often cheaper in terms if initial outlay.
HPI, the vehicle data company, this week recommended conducting a few simple checks before buying that could minimise the risk of purchasing a stolen car.
It suggested making sure the vehicle identification number has not been tampered with and asking to have the V5/logbook registration.
