Used Mercedes gets Jaguar competition

Used Mercedes cars could be dethroned as the best vehicles for residual value.
For years the used car market has been dominated by the Mercedes S-class for its superb value retention but that could be set to change as Jaguar releases its new XJ.Experts predict that the new XJ, launched in the UK in March 2010, will beat the used Mercedes S-class after three years or 60,000 miles by 2 per cent.
Starting from £53,775 on the road, the Jaguar XJ is competitively priced to challenge the Mercedes S-class.
EurotaxGlass's, the industry expert on used cars' residual value, forecasts that after 12 months or 20,000 miles the Mercedes S-class with be worth £36,450, which is 64.7 per cent of its original price. Meanwhile, it claims at £35,000, the Jaguar XJ will be worth 65 per cent of its purchase value.
Jason King, head of market intelligence for EurotaxGlass's said: "The strong appeal of the new XJ we believe will translate into a strong demand from future used car buyers."
The Jaguar XJ diesel has already been named Britain's greenest luxury car by the Environmental Transport Association's 2009 Car Buyers' Guide.
