Used MPVs witness sales growth
26 March 2009
Between October and December last year, used MPV vehicles were the only segment to witness a sales increase.
Multi-purpose vehicles seem to be in decent demand among used car fans currently, according to the latest car statistics from Experian. It has been discovered that the segment, which includes vehicles such as the Land Rover, was the only one across the country to witness an increase in sales between October and December of last year.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that demand for the second hand cars was at its peak in London, where sales grew by 19 per cent during the final three months of 2008.
Overall, the demand for used cars in general in the three month period fell by 8.5 per cent across the country.
Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian's automotive division, said: "The latest used car sales statistics show that despite a greater focus on smaller, more economical vehicles, the fall in sales for the used supermini and mini segments were still on a par with, for example, the upper medium and the sports segments.
"It indicates that even in a downturn there is a certain degree of reluctance to downgrade in size."
The Land Rover Discovery was voted the top 4x4 vehicle by What Car? magazine last year.
