Used Nissan drivers to be owners of new Micra
22 October 2009
New Nissan Micra will be bought by those who own the current model, according to the manufacturer.
Drivers of new and used Nissan Micras are most likely to be tempted by the upcoming model, it has been suggested.According to a review of the next Micra supermini in What Car?, the company stated the new auto will appeal to motorists who own the current model.
The publication noted the vehicle is based on the Qazana concept and therefore likely to rival the Ford Fiesta or the Citroen DS range, particularly in terms of design.
It made the comments after the firm allowed a sneak preview of the motor - set for release in the UK next autumn - at its headquarters in Yokohama.
Built on Nissan's new V platform, the new version is bigger than the one it replaces.
However, it has been designed so that it is 50 kg lighter - something the firm achieved by reducing the number of components and simplifying its systems.
It will also come with a three-cylinder engine and CVT gearbox.
Furthermore, unusual design features include two 'U' shapes on the vehicle's roof.
Noritaka Tsuru, original chief engineer for the V platform, told the news provider: "The shapes on the roof were requested by an engineer. They help reduce vibration and noise in the cabin."
In related news, used Nissan Notes were recently named the What Car? Superminis of the Year 2009.
