The Vauxhall Insignia has been awarded five stars for adult protection from Euro NCAP.

Used car drivers looking for a vehicle that has achieved high results for safety may wish to consider the Vauxhall Insignia.

The vehicle as been awarded a five star adult occupant rating from Euro NCAP after receiving 35 marks out of 37 in crash safety testing, while a four star rating was gained for child protection.

Hans Demant, vice-president of engineering for General Motors Europe, said: "We designed, engineered and built the Insignia to be one of the safest cars on the road and the way it performed in the Euro NCAP tests confirms the relevance of our technical solutions."

One of the safety features of the car is the Vauxhall's Front Camera System, which warns drivers if they unintentionally veer of the road, while recognising traffic signs.

Also, the vehicle has three height-adjustable head restraints in the rear, three-point safety belts all around and a comprehensive airbag system.

Meanwhile, the Vauxhall Insignia was recently crowned the 2009 Car of the Year, holding off the challenge of the Ford Fiesta by one vote to scoop the prize.
