Vauxhall has announced that the new Meriva's diesel engine line-up is now complete with the introduction of two super efficient units that together enhance the green credentials of the range and offer yet more performance than its predecessors. This brings the total engines in the Meriva range to seven - four diesel and three petrol units.

The first new addition is a 1.3 CDTi engine generating 95PS, which can power all Meriva ecoFLEX models. The unit, which is mated to a gearbox with higher ratios, features a closed-loop combustion control and uses a variable geometry turbocharger. As such, the emissions of Meriva ecoFLEX reduce to 119g/km and achieve combined fuel consumption of 62.8mpg.

Secondly, the new 1.7 CDTi spewing up to 130PS complements buyers who seek more performance but still require the economy and efficiency expected from a modern diesel engine. With a maximum torque of 300Nm available from 2,000rpm - 2,500rpm, the most powerful diesel in the Meriva range can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 9.9 seconds and hit a maximum speed of 121mph.

The new 1.7 CDTi unit emits just 138g/km of CO2 and achieves fuel consumption on the combined cycle of 54.3mpg thanks to a variable geometry turbocharger fitted with position feedback sensor. In addition, all 1.7 CDTi Merivas have six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

With unique rear-hinged back doors (FlexDoors), FlexRail storage systems and FlexSpace seating, the new Meriva has raised the benchmark in its class for versatility, accessibility and in-car storage, while offering buyers new levels of driveability and perceived quality in the compact MPV segment.

Pricing for the new Meriva's diesel units ranges from £16,875 OTR for the Meriva S 1.3 CDTi 75PS.
