Volkswagen Golf awarded safest car prize

03 February 2010

The EuroNCAP Institute in Brussels has recognised the Volkswagen Golf as the safest car of 2009.

The EuroNCAP Institute has handed its Safest Car of the Year award to the Volkswagen Golf after compiling results from 12 months of testing.

Having already received a five-star EuroNCAP rating in 2008, stricter rules meant that the compact car had to undergo further testing in 2009, but performed well and beat competition with a score of 103 points.

Occupant protection of adults, protection of children, pedestrian protection and supporting safety and driver assistance systems were all examined in the new tests, on top of performance in frontal crashes and side crashes.

Volkswagen noted its counter-steer assist, anti-lock braking system, anti-slip regulation, electronic differential lock and engine drag torque control among the facilities which contributed to the Golf's success.

The car has also previously won Top Safety Pick recognition by the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

More Volkswagen Passat CC used cars may be made available as motorists take advantage of an optional rear bench feature on newer models, which boosts capacity from four to five.
