The Volkswagen Passat has been given a title as a best used car.

If you drive a used Volkswagen Passat, you'll be pleased to know it has just received an accolade.

The 1996 fifth-generation version of the vehicle has been named the Large Used Car of the Decade by CAP, the car valuation firm.

CAP spokesperson Mark Bulmer stated: "The Volkswagen Passat is a byword for quality and the model launched in 1996 was a quantum leap forward in every area most important to the trade and the used car buyer."

He praised its diesel engine and affordable price and noted that even with a six-figure mileage, the car could perform well.

The Passat was first introduced in 1973 and the fifth-generation model was unveiled at the 1996 Paris Motor Show.

In 1997, it was named European Car of the Year at the Auto 1 Awards.

Volkswagen and Suzuki are currently in the process of carrying out a long-term partnership.

They mean to work together in producing more environmentally friendly automobiles.
