Volkswagen revealed its latest models of Touareg for the next year, including a hybrid car. The sports utility vehicle underwent redesigning from top to bottom. It will come in a variety of options including gasoline, diesel and hybrid.
The new Touareg is approximately 200kg lighter compared to its earlier model. Its gasoline model would be 20% more fuel efficient, and the hybrid model would be the companys earliest foray in the hybrid drive trains.
The Touareg Hybrid utilises a 3.3L supercharged V6 direct injection engine that produces 328 horsepower combined with a 46 horsepower electric motor installed through an 8-speed automatic transmission in order for the engine or motor to disengage from the shaft.
The overall package will get approximately 28.7 miles per gallon (US). It can achieve 0-62 miles per hour in a remarkable 6.5 seconds.
The hybrid Touareg will also have other great features, including an all-electric driving rate of up to 31mph for an indefinite distance. Another feature is its coasting, which unfastens the engine after the driver releases the accelerator at all vehicle speeds below 100mph. This feature diminishes drag torque while boosting economy. Also, the new Touareg has a regenerative braking to bring back the energy to the NiMH battery pack. Moreover, its Stop-Start feature, which is included in the power train, lets the engine shut off automatically when stopped.
The V10 TDI engines of the old Touareg models will no longer be available. It would be substituted by the V6 TDI. The earlier V8 engine would be changed with the latest V8 for the higher-end option that delivers 26 miles per gallon (US).
