Volvo makes great image strides with the new V50
9 February 2009Despite the fact that Volvo has always struggled with the image of its vehicles, giant strides have been made with the new V50, according to a review of the vehicle.
Writing for Car Magazine, Stephen Wortley states that the V50 2.0D Powershift has a "certain rugged Nordic charm".
In terms of environmental attitude, emissions in the diesel are 153g/km, which is far less than the 179g/km CO2 UK average.
Changing gear in the new Volvo is smooth, with Mr Wortley adding that "the gearbox is creamier than a tub of Haagen-Dazs".
Furthermore, the engine is just as capable of hitting the motorways as driving around town.
Overall, he states that the gearbox provides the vehicle with "power and punch" and the vehicle ticks all the right boxes.
A past review of the Volvo V50 by What Car? stated that it has "sharp handling and lots of grip".
Meanwhile, even the cheapest offerings came with decent amounts of included equipment and on the inside there was plenty of space for passengers.
