A dazzling race car was put on display at last weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, as Zagato, one of Italy’s top coachbuilders, unveiled the TZ3 Corsa. The car marks 90 years of partnership between Alfa Romeo and Zagato, in addition to being an accolade to the 100 strong years of common racing ancestry of both companies.
The TZ3 Corsa is finished in a mono shell carbon fibre tubular chassis that is coupled to an aluminium body shell and tubular frame. This enables the 4.3-metre long, 1.9-metre wide & 1.2-metre high racer to weigh a performance-guaranteeing 850 kilograms.
The car is powered by a 4.2-litre V8 powerplant which offers 420hp and utilises dry sump lubrication to let the driver manually adjust the calibration. It is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox, which pushes the car to deliver 62mph in less than 3.5 seconds and produce a top speed of more than 187mph.
Two high-profile firms supported this project: Pirelli, which supplied 18-inch slick PZero tires, and OMP which developed the carbon fibre steering wheel, WRC carbon fibre seats, and the suspension for the car.
“The TZ3 Corsa is not a design exercise. It does not take inspiration only from the 90 year collaboration between the two brands, neither only from the Milanese conjunction between Alfa Romeo and Zagato. The TZ3 Corsa is a race car, honouring 100 years of races and victories across the whole 20th century”, a statement from the press release read.
The TZ3 Corsa was commissioned by Martin Kapp, a German collector of Alfa Romeo Zagatos.
