2014 Autosport International Motor Show

The annual Autosport International Motor Show marks the start of the 2014 motor sports season in style. With over 600 exhibitors the event takes up most of the NEC’s exhibition halls with gorgeous displays of such precious metal like last season’s Formula One cars and Red Bull's Gran Turismo 6 concept know as X2014.

This years show saw Formula One World Champion John Surtees, Le Mans Winners Tom Kristensen and Allan Mcnish live of stage. The stars talked about their long and illustrious careers in motor racing and met some of the thousands of on looking fans. John Surtees career was celebrated further with a stand dedicated to the only 2 and 4 wheeled Formula One World Champion.

As is custom with the Autosport's Show The BTCC was out in force with Champions Andrew Jordan, Jason Plato, Colin Turkington, Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden all in attendance. A number of the 2014 seasons cars were unveiled over the weekend, these included Rob Austin's Audi A4, Handy Motorsport Toyota Avensis, Speedworks Toyota Avensis and AmD Tuning.com Ford Focus.

Last years champions Honda Yuasa Racing team had their Civic Tourer Estate on public display for the first time. Following 5 titles out of 6 in two years, Honda have taken the brave decision to replace the Civic hatch with an Estate car. This will be the first Estate in the BTCC for 20 years when Touring car legend Richard Rydell drove the ill fated Volvo 850 Estate.

Headlining the supercar presence with almost 3,000bhp between them were the new Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Jaguar XKRS GT, MClaren 12C GT Sprint and the Tesla Model S. The stunning all electric Tesla Model S stood out amongst the petrol powered cars, its 85kWh Performance pack accelerates from 0 to 60 in just 4.2 seconds and delivers 416bhp reaching 130mph – all from a battery!

Britain’s fastest ever police car featured as part of the road safety campaign. The McLaren 12c Spider capable of a scorching 207mph was mocked up in full police colours in the hope that it raises awareness of the road safety message to young motoring enthusiasts.

The live action arena saw stunts from the amazing Terry Grant, in which at one point he stepped out of his ‘Legend Car’ while it was still doing donuts, ran into the audience - grabbed a mobile phone from a spectator and jumped back into the still pirouetting vehicle and videoed the rest of his performance. It also showed AutoCar’s collection of the best driver’s cars, including the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Caterham 620R, Ford Fiesta ST Mountune, Porsche 911 GT3 and the Radical RXC.

Overall team Autoweb had a fantastic day out and we can't wait to attend next years show, which takes place on the weekend of 10th and 11th of January 2015.
