A remap is very often the first performance upgrade motorists purchase for their car. All car ECU’s are built in code, and car manufacturers limit the power output of engines to meet CO2 emission ratings and prolong the life of an engine. A remap involves changing the ECU’s code and variables to tell the engine to put more power down onto the road. A remap is pretty pointless on a naturally aspirated engine, but if your car is turbocharged or supercharged, a remap could have big gains – companies note that they can give a turbo petrol engine 20% more power and a turbo diesel engine 35% more power.
