Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI BlueMotion
BlueMotion used to be called SlowMotion in my neck of the woods, but this latest generation Golf is an almost perfect blend of performance and efficiency. In 3-door guise, this car has CO2 rating of just 85 g/km and will return a whopping 88.3 miles per gallon. That efficiency translates to this - tax payable at 20% is £576 and at 40% £1,151. That makes the Golf BlueMotion the cheapest car on our list today. Despite all of the efficiency tech going on under the bonnet, this Golf is spritely with 184 lb /ft of torque and in-gear it feels faster than the 10.5 second 0 - 62 mph time would suggest.
Standard equipment on the Golf BlueMotion includes air conditioning, heated electric mirrors, low-resistance tyres and alloy wheels, Bluetooth, and an LCD media infotainment interface. You don't get cruise control, power folding mirrors, or satellite navigation, but the aim of this Golf is to be as efficient as possible. If you are considering a Golf BlueMotion as your next company car, take that into account.
Alternatively, you can get a Seat Leon with the same engine. The 1.6 TDI Ecomotive is almost as efficient and it costs less to buy.
