Volvo V40 D2 SE Nav
If you are unfamiliar with Volvo cars, let me sell the V40 to you - this car has a 1.6-litre diesel engine that develops more power than the Volkswagen 1.6 TDI yet it is much more efficient. This car has a CO2 rating of just 88 g/km (free annual road tax) and it will return an incredible 83.1 miles per gallon. Due to the super-low running costs, and the reasonable on-the-road price, company car tax is rated at £602 at 20% and £1,204 at 40%.
That means the Volvo V40 is the cheapest company car hatchback on our list.
Despite being the cheapest, though, the V40 is a fantastic car to travel in. In SE Nav guise, standard equipment includes satellite navigation, Bluetooth, climate control, cruise control, power folding mirrors, automatic wipers, plus much more. The 1.6-litre diesel engine is punchy at motorway speeds with 199 lb /ft of torque and refined (if a little noisier than the 1.6 TDI) at low speeds.
The V40 is also the safest car on my list today - it actually broke the Euro NCAP safety record in 2012.
