Angel Nieto is often overlooked on lists of the top Moto GP racers, which is a huge shame, because the Spaniard had huge success during his motorbike racing career, which many modern day racers can only hope to achieve.
Angel Nieto's racing career started in 1964, and his first win came that same year in the 50cc Spanish Grand Prix. Although Nieto never competed within powerful classes, he dominated the lower classes, winning the 50cc Championship in 1969, 1970, 1972, 1975 and 1977, and the 125cc Championship in 1971, 1972, 1979, 1981 and 1984. He started in 186 races and won 90 of them, making the podium a total of 139 times. He racked up a whopping 1782 points in his racing career, which is more than anybody else on our list here today.
Angel Nieto now commentates motorbike racing for Spanish television, and he's a well known motorsport personality in his home country. There's even a museum dedicated to him called the Ángel Nieto museum.
