Vauxhall Astra GTC BiTurbo
On-the-road price: £23,925
The first entrant on our list is the stunning Vauxhall Astra GTC in BiTurbo guise. When the GTC was released, it was done so to compete against the Volkswagen Scirocco and Renault Megane - it is an entirely different car to the regular Astra, and as such, Vauxhall markets it as simply the 'Vauxhall GTC'.
The best version of the GTC, other than the fabulous VXR, is the BiTurbo - this car features a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that produces a healthy 195 bhp and 295 lb /ft of torque, which it develops from as little as 1250 rpm. This engine uses a small turbocharger for low revs and a larger turbocharger for big revs. The result is seamless power delivery and considerable straight line pace. Having test driven this car, we can put our hands on our heart and say that this is one of the easiest cars to rack up speed whilst oblivious to how fast you're really going. 0 - 62 comes up in 7.8 seconds and it'll return over 50 miles per gallon.
Despite the grunt, this car costs only a few hundred pounds more than a GTC SRI with 130 bhp. Good value for money if you ask us.
