DeLorean DMC-12
No list of pretty but slow cars would ever be complete without the addition of the famous DeLorean DMC-12, a car that appeared to be so fast in Back to the Future yet proved so slow in real life. The problem with this car lay in its power plant; the Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 produced just 150 bhp, due to United States emissions regulations. In Europe, the car had the same power. The result? 0 - 60 mph in 8.8 seconds. That was respectable for the 1980's, but in truth, the performance simply didn't live up to the stunning looks. Although the DeLorean DMC-12 was produced in Northern Ireland, it was mostly intended for the American market, and therefore, left-hand drive DeLorean's are much more common than right-hand drive ones.
Still, the DeLorean looked great in the 1980's and it still looks great today. If you ever have the opportunity to buy one, we say do it, as you'll be cementing a piece of movie history - although not directly linked, of course - in your garage. Just don't attempt any drag races in it.
