Volkswagen Golf R
It might not have a V6 anymore, but the Golf R is still faster than ever. Like those before it, the R has 4MOTION all-wheel-drive and plenty of power - 296 bhp and 280 lb /ft of torque, to be exact. That power is made from the same engine you will find in the Leon Cupra, a 2.0-litre TSI. The only difference between the two engines is the map on the ECU but the Golf delivers its power very differently. The best work in the Golf comes low down and up top, whereas in the Cupra the best work happens in the mid-range.
The best thing about the R though is not the performance. It's certainly impressive, but in the end the R is an ideal family car too. It'll only return around 30 mpg in the real world but it's hugely practical and it looks fantastic .In five-door guise, you will be the envy of many families in their regular Golf's.
